I've never really been a fan of the CVS icon. One of my complaints is it's lack of consistency. I noticed that there seem to be several versions of it. I would like to contribute to the CvsGui project by improving the Logo/Icon. Here is my proposal. Feel free to send me your comments/criticism.
After looking through the WinCVS source I've found these versions of the logo and icon:
These are the application icons:
| 16x16 | 32x32 | |
| 1 bit | ||
| 8 bit | ||
| 24 bit |
This image is displayed on the splash screen, and on the main web site. This seems to be the highest quality image used anywhere, and because it's on their web site I consider it to be the main CvsGui logo.
This image is in the About Box, and looks like the result of a poor color reduction process to 16 colors without any dithering.
The progress bar uses another fish image:
I've used the splash screen as a model, and produced this image as the new proposed CVS GUI logo.
I think the top right thing that looks like a starburst is supposed to be a bursting bubble. If so then it should really be changed. I was just trying to be as close to what I considered the main logo as possible.
Using the proposed logo I've produced these icons:
| 16x16 | 24x24 | 32x32 | 48x48 | |
| 1 bit | ||||
| 8 bit | ||||
| 24 bit |
The old image in the about box was 16 colors, which I don't believe is necessary, 256 is allowed. Here is a new image with more colors.
This is currently 16 colors, but might be able to be brought to 256 colors. I am still looking into this.
